I was thrilled by the recent announcement ofStar Wars Zero Company, not just because I love tactical shooters, but also because I am starving for some newStar Warscontent. Although I was hesitant aboutStar Warsbecoming another over-saturated franchise after its acquisition by Disney, I am a little disappointed in most of what the IP has put out recently, especially video games. While there are some otherStar Warsgames announced,Star Wars Zero Companyis more exciting to me because it seems to have a leg up on other projects.
This isn’t to say thatStar Warsmedia is completely gone, and there have been a few video games in recent years. Althoughmy initial reaction toStar Wars Outlawswas positive, the further I got into the game, the more it started to show the same cracks as most open-world Ubisoft titles. I was starting to feel like the new season ofAndorwas the onlyStar Warsproject I had to look forward to, but luckily, our first look atStar Wars Zero Companyproved me wrong.

Star Wars Zero Company Has Actually Shown Gameplay
Star Wars Zero Company’s Trailer Showed Off Some Gameplay Footage
When EA shared the announcement trailer forStar Wars ZeroCompanyonYouTubea few days ago, it was a pleasant surprise. Not just because it was the announcement of a newStar Warsgame, butit actually showed gameplay footage. We got to see a few battlefield set-ups, some of the moves available to us, and a look at the types of enemies we could be facing. As a huge fan of theXCOMseries, I was delighted to see its style of gameplay mixed with one of my favorite IPs.
Aside from gameplay footage, the trailer also gave us a release window forStar Wars Zero Company. Although the trailer only said that the game would come out some time in 2026, that’s at least a concrete year to expect. While that might not seem like much, it is more than we’ve gotten from some otherStar Warsgames that were announced before we even knew thatStar Wars Zero Companyexisted. While I’m excited about the new game, it’s also a little disappointing that it’s seemingly further along than some of the previously announced titles.

Several Star Wars Games Have Been Radio Silent
There Are A Few Announced Star Wars Games That Don’t Have A Release Window Or Gameplay
There are multipleStar Warsgames that have been announced, but seem to be stuck in development hell. Perhaps the most prominent example of this is the eagerly awaitedStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicremake. Quantic Dream also has a new project calledStar Wars: Eclipse, and I am interested in seeing aStar Warsgame with the type of narrative experience that the studio tends to deliver. However, I don’t have high hopes for either game coming out soon. Both were announced in 2021, and aside from the occasional reassurance that they aren’t canceled, we haven’t heard much.
We are also supposed to be getting a follow-up toStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, though I am a bit more confident that one will still happen. There were about four years in between the last two games in the franchise, so if the new one follows a similar schedule, it should be out in 2027. Still, as of now,the only announcedStar Warsgame that has even so much as a release window isStar Wars Zero Company. This doesn’t inspire much confidence in the other upcomingStar Warsprojects, especially given the franchise’s history of canceled games.
Star Wars Projects Keep Struggling To Materialize
Star Wars Games And Movies Keep Getting Announced Then Not Coming Out
Aside from games like theKOTORremake that are stuck in development, there have also been several excitingStar Warsprojects that ended up getting canceled. At least one fan was so disappointed by the cancellation ofStar Wars 1313that they attempted tomake their own version usingStarfield. Then there was Project Ragtag, aStar Warsgame helmed byUnchartedcreator Amy Hennig.Uncharted’s style of fast-paced cinematic gameplay would be perfect forStar Wars, and Hennig is reportedly working on a new project according toStar Wars’website, but we haven’t gotten many concrete details yet.
This issue withStar Warsdoesn’t seem relegated to the world of video games. It’s been two years since it was announced that Daisy Ridley would reprise her role as Rey, yet we still haven’t heard much about it. It’s been six years since the lastStar Warsfilm was released, and the next one we’re getting is just a spin-off of a Disney+ series. With so many projects in the franchise struggling to be released, it’s refreshing to see something likeStar Wars Zero Companyget announced that is already somewhat playable, and has a release window.
