Xbox officially severed ties with a Brazilian YouTuber who spread racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic content on social media. The announcement follows days of global protests against racial injustice and police brutality and after gaming companies like Microsoft andSony voiced support for Black Lives Matter.
On Twitter, Xbox Brazil announced that it will no longer be working with YouTuber Mil Grau, a content creator who makes videos aboutXboxgames and used the word “Xbox” in several of his profile names on social media. In Portuguese, Xbox said that Mil Grau’s content “does not reflect our fundamental values of respect, diversity and inclusion” and that it demands “the immediate removal of our brand from its channels, through social media companies.”

The campaign was also aided by an email sent by journalist Eric Arraché to Xbox Boss Phil Spencer. After being told about Mil Grau’s content, Spencer responded that Arraché could “rest assured that we will deal with this.” The Xbox boss is known for being incredibly responsive to fans and issues on social media, whether that be voicing support for social causes oranswering questions about the Xbox Series X, so few are surprised to see him try to help here.
Since Xbox announced that it would be cutting ties with Mil Grau, the YouTuber has also been banned from Twitch. Mil Grau, who was a Twitch Partner, has been served his first ban though it’s not known for how long. It’s unclear what content made Twitch ban him but it comes after the platform launched theTwitch Safety Advisory Councilin an effort to deal with harassment and abuse on the site.
The action by Xbox may seem small in comparison to the other support anddonations that gaming companies have been providing to Black Lives Matter. However, the positive response to the announcement shows that fans feel that this is a huge part of making the Xbox community more inclusive.
