Xboxhas been having a rough time lately. The Xbox Series X|S has continued to sell worse than the Xbox One, despite being a far superior system. Many Xbox exclusives are now being released on PlayStation 5, and thisexclusivity crisis is sparking concernamong fans. Microsoft also recently laid off 9,000 employees, many from its gaming divisions, and cancelled a number of projects. However, even with all that, there is a bright spot in the future, and that’s Xbox’s promising new hardware.
Microsoft’s next gaming hardware venture is sounding morelike a PC than a console, which would be a fresh idea compared to the competition. Microsoft has spent tons of money on AI, and even Xbox highlighted it during the recent AMD Next-Gen video. The best game to showcase this new AI technology would be a full-blown remake of the 1996 classicThe Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall. It’sone of the most ambitious games of all time, and recreatingDaggerfall’sformula with this new tech is a perfect fit.

Daggerfall Was Like A 90s Starfield
Absolutely Wild For 1996
While most have playedOblivionandSkyrim, many haven’t checked out the older games inThe Elder Scrollsseries. Sure, playing them inrelease order isn’t the best idea, but you should try the older games at some point, especiallyDaggerfall. It’s not a good-looking game by today’s standards, butit’s one of the most impressive games ever made withits wildly huge game map.
If you playedStarfield, you know that most planets are procedurally generated.Daggerfallused the same concept 27 years earlier, and it’s significantly more massive in scope. Instead of individual planets, you have an entire side of a continent to explore, taking nearly three days to walk acrossfrom start to finish. It was absolutely mind-blowing for 1996, and still impressive to this day, even with most of the game map procedurally generated.
A Daggerfall Remake Should Be Perfect For The Next-Gen Xbox
Pushing AI To The Limits
Daggerfallis amust-play RPG that defined the genrein the 90s, but its graphics can be a turn-off today. Due to Xbox making AI a core piece of the next-generation of hardware, it would be awesome to create a full-blown remake ofDaggerfallsimilar toOblivion Remastered, withXbox’s new AI technology as the centerpieceforDaggerfall’smassive game map.
There have been so many technological advancements since 1996 that recreatingDaggerfall’sGreat Britain-sized game map with modern AI is a great showcase for it. Recreating this huge, largely AI-generated game map with the same graphical quality and attention to detail asOblivion Remasteredwould be mind-blowing, just like it was in 1996. It’s clear the future ofXboxis heavily riding on its next-gen hardware, but aDaggerfallremake would be a great first impression for what’s possible in this new era.
