With the eighth and final season ofGame of Thronesnow in full swing, some fans are certain to have their eyes set on the future of this much beloved fantasy franchise. While these fans may be expecting this future to be one filled with TV spinoffs, and perhaps evenGeorge R.R. Martin’s novelized finale, a recent tease from Xbox suggests that there may be something else in the works.
This tease was shared on Sunday via the Xbox Twitter account, and it is, admittedly, very brief. Specifically, it contains a short text message and an accompanying video, both of which point directly toGame of Thrones.
Regarding the text of the Xbox tweet, it reads: “And now your wait begins. Stay tuned.” While the obvious indication here is that more details on something are forthcoming, the phrasing seems to offer a bit more information on what that something might be. That is, the Night’s Watch oath fromGame of Throneshas a similar structure, starting with: “Night gathers, and now my watch begins.”
This connection might not be clear enough to definitively confirm that Xbox is teasing something related toGame of Thrones, but the accompanying video certainly is. Indeed, in this 12 second clip, fans will see a blaze of fire give way to reveal the bottom half of House Targaryen’s sigil, which depicts a three-headed dragon.
Now, with it solidly established that the Xbox tweet is referencing something connected toGame of Thrones, the question many are likely to have is exactly what it will be. One option is that it will be a custom Xbox One console, much like theGodzilla Xbox One X consolesthat have recently been revealed.
While some would certainly be happy to own this type ofcollectible, what may get fans really excited is the possibility that Xbox is teasing a newGame of Thronesvideo game. There have been seven video games based onGame of Thrones, and the novels the TV series is based on, but none have received stellar critical reception. Certainly, many fans would be thrilled if Xbox could address this with an outstandingGoTvideo game.
The final season ofGame of Thronespremiered on HBO on Sunday, April 14.
