Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Andor season 2 episodes 1, 2, and 3.Andorseason 2 has started strong with episodes 1–3, but where does this arc take place in the largerStar Warstimeline? The first season ofAndortook place in 5 BBY, meaning it took place five years before the Battle of Yavin inA New Hope. This also means it occurred five years before Cassian Andor’s first appearance inRogue One: A Star Wars Story, leaving a four-year gap between the films andAndor.
Thankfully, theAndorseason 2 premiereclarifies when these three episodes are set in theStar Warstimeline. This placement and other details revealed in the episodes provide hints of what we can expect in the rest of the season. It also lets us know what other importantStar Warsevents are likely occurring around the same time and how this affects the rise of the Rebel Alliance.

Andor Season 2 Opens In 4BBY - But We Can Be Even More Precise Than That
The title and a line of dialogue make its placement clear
Andorseason 2’s aptly-titled first episode, “One Year Later,” immediately confirms that the arc takes place in 4 BBY, approximately four years before the events ofRogue One. However,Major Partagaz reminds Dedra that she’s been pursuing “Axis” for two years, meaning the episode must be in late 4 BBY. This also retroactively reveals that the first episodes ofAndorseason 1 must be in early 5 BBY for these timeline placements to align with this dialogue.
What Does This Mean For The Rest Of Andor Season 2?
We have a good idea of where the show is heading
Andorshowrunner Tony Gilroy has already given an idea of when each season 2 arc will be set. With four years left to cover, each arc will jump ahead approximately one year, culminating in the final arc that leads directly intoRogue One. If these first three episodes are in late 4 BBY, and the final arc is right beforeRogue One, perhaps the next two arcs will be in late 3 BBY and late 2 BBY, respectively.
Of course,Gilroy also said that the creative team chose the most important days from each year, which may not be the same timeframe for each arc. The show is already setting up events likethe Ghorman Massacre, and while that happens in 2 BBY, it could happen early in the year instead of late.Andorseason 2 will release three episodes a week, soStar Warsfans won’t have to wait too long to find out.

New episodes ofAndorseason 2 release weekly on Tuesdays at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST on Disney+.
