InBlue Prince, as you explore Mount Holly, you’ll notice each room has ranks. You might have a Rank One bedroom on one day, then have it change to Rank Five the next. What does this mean? That’s what we’re here to talk about.

Many questions can surface aboutBlue Prince’sroom rank system, such as what they are, their function, and any potential benefits you get from them. Fortunately, despite understanding these ranks being slightly complicated, determining a room’s rank is simpler than you’d expect.

What is room rank in Blue Prince?

Room rank describes how far you’ve progressed in the house. Rooms in the same row as the Entrance Hall areRank One, with the ranks ascending toRank Nineas you get closer to the Antechamber.

Rather than each room having one set rank, they change depending on where you draft them. If you draft a Billiard Room next to the Entrance Hall on one day, it’ll be a Rank One Billiard Room. The following day, you might not draft it until you’ve advanced five rows, bringing it up to Rank Five. The room and its puzzle type remain the same, but its rank differs. Some exceptions are rooms like The Foundation, which stay in the same spot during the rest of your playthrough.

How to increase room rank in Blue Prince

Increasing room rank requires advancing vertically through the house. As you expand closer to the Antechamber, your room ranks will increase up to Rank Nine. Since there are five squares in each row, you may have up to five rooms with the same rank.

Although increasing room rank is useful, especially if you’ve drafted rooms like the Dining Room that only activate after reaching Rank Eight, be careful about beelining it to the top of the house. More often than not, you’ll lock yourself out of branching paths that could otherwise house dead ends, bedrooms, and other helpful places that can benefit you later.

Overall, your goal is to fill in earlier ranks first by building rooms on the bottommost floors near the Entrance Hall before advancing upward. That way, you may clear out any dead ends that can hinder you later and pick up benefits from spots like bedrooms, closets, and storerooms. Generally speaking, you’re much better off having these in lower-rank spots and focusing on branching out and building multi-exit rooms later on.
