TheWednesdayseason 2 trailer confirms a follow-up to season 1’s most viral moment. Following its debut in 2022,Wednesdayquickly became one ofNetflix’s most-watched shows.Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams was incredibly well-received, as were the episodes directed by filmmaker Tim Burton, and it did not take long for Netflix to greenlightWednesdayseason 2. While Ortega and many other cast members are returning, the new season will also feature Lady Gaga, Thandiwe Newton, Steve Buscemi, and Christopher Lloyd.

Expectations are high, especially after a three-year hiatus, and because of how season 1 proved to be a popular culture phenomenon. A significant ingredient in this success wasOrtega’s dance scene inWednesdayseason 1, which takes place during Nevermore Academy’s annual ball known as the Rave’N. The scene in question became a viral sensation as countless content creators posted videos in which they mimicked Wednesday’s unique moves on the dance floor. While it will be difficult to replicate or surpass this scene, the season 2 trailer provides a glimpse of a follow-up.

Wednesday Season 2’s Dance Scene Follow-Up Is Seemingly A Waltz Between Gomez & Morticia

Their Relationship Remains Unparalleled

TheWednesdayseason 2 trailer features a shot of Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) dancing. They appear to be doing a waltz together, with the romantic dance being a fitting choice for the couple, who are known for their passionate love story and enduring relationship. If the trailer is any indication,Gomez and Morticia’s waltz will be the follow-up to Wednesday’s scene in season 1, as a different generation of the Addams family leaves a storng impression through their dance moves.

Gomez and Morticia being the ones to have this season’s dance aligns with comments that have been made about the other members of the Addams family having more prominent roles in season 2.Except for the titular Wednesday, the other Addams family members had more infrequent appearances in season 1. However, they will have more of a presence in season 2, which includes Wednesday’s brotherPugsley (Isaac Ordonez) getting powersand attending Nevermore Academy.

Morticia & Gomez’s Season 2 Scene Looks Like A Callback To Their Addams Family Values Dance

Wednesday Continues To Pay Homage To The Movies

In the 1993Addams Family Valuesmovie, Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) share an intimate and impressive dance. Gomez and Morticia’s waltz inWednesdayseason 2 looks like it may be reminiscent of the couple’s dance scene fromAddams Family Values. This would not be the first time that the Netflix show has paid homage to previousAddams Familymovies. Oneof the most significant examples of this is that Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday inThe Addams Family and Addams Family Values, is cast as Marilyn Thornhill/Laurel Gates inWednesdayseason 1.

The dance moves and the energy between Gomez and Morticia are consistent in the 1993 movie and in the glimpse shown in the season 2 trailer. One noticeable difference between the two scenes is that theAddams Family Valuesscene occurs in front of a crowd while the couple appear to be alone in the upcoming season. Being alone will arguably makeWednesday’s dance scene feel even more romantic and intimate, and itwill beaneffective way to highlight Gomez and Morticia’s chemistry and genuine love for each other.

Will Season 2 Have Another Big Wednesday Addams Dance Scene?

There Could Be Room For Multiple Generations To Dance In Season 2

Gomez and Morticia’s dance looks to be very sweet. However, in order for season 2 to have another viral moment, it probably needs to have a scene with Wednesday and her Nevermore Academy peers dancing. As wonderful as Gomez and Morticia are, younger generations are unlikely to resonate with their waltz in the same way that the teenage Wednesday’s eccentric dance did. With season 2 following a new school year at Nevermore Academy, there could easily be another Rave’N, with new choreography that can translate into a new viral sensation.

Season 1’s dance was not included with the intention of creating a viral phenomenon, and trying to replicate it could end up feeling contrived.

Since Tim Burton had abig dance scene inBeetlejuice Beetlejuicefeaturing Ortega, perhaps a dance scene with Wednesday will be included in one of the season 2 episodes that he is directing. There is ample potential for Wednesday to perform another dance, but it ultimately should only happen if it services the story. Season 1’s dance was not included with the intention of creating a viral phenomenon, and trying to replicate it could end up feeling contrived. It maybe best for the only dance inWednesdayseason 2 to be Gomez and Morticia’s waltz.
