Nexon, the studio behind the hit titleThe First Berserker: Khazan, announces that their other upcoming SoulslikeVindictus: Defying Fateis entering alpha testing in June. The newVindictustitle is being developed by CAG Studio, which is not the same studio asKhazan,which was brought to life by Neople. However, both games are published by Nexon and feature popular MMOs from the South Korean gaming giant’s IP portfolio.
The June alpha testing news forVindictus: Defying Fatewaspaired with a brief new teaser trailer. Though the trailer is incredibly short, it shows off what players can expect from the game, including a glimpse of the setting, characters, and battle system. LikeKhazan’sorigins in the MMODFO, this game will take place within the world of Nexon’s immensely popular MMO,Vindictus.This means that fans of the MMO will find plenty of familiar faces and locations in the upcoming game.

New Battle Mechanics, Characters, And More Revealed
In addition to a new teaser trailer, the developers ofVindictus: Defying Fatehave released a developer’s log onSteamshowcasing some of the game’s elements that will be ready for the alpha phase. The log highlights theinteractive features of the game’s environments, which are present even on the battlefield, like grappling over obstacles and ziplining into arenas.
If you played the pre-alpha ofVindictus: Defying Fate,your progress will not carry over into the alpha.

The log alsotakes a look at some of the battle elements, like the timing-based Perfect Guard (called a Special Action inVindictus), and the stagger and final strike mechanics, which differ per character depending on their combat style. Two characters were also revealed to be making the jump from the MMO into the Soulslike title: the heavy-hitting warrior Karok, and the greatsword-wielding princess Delia. Fans will get a chance to try these characters out when the alpha becomes available in June.
