GDC’s Game of the Year Award for 2020 went toUntitled Goose Game, a stunning victory for a small indie studio like House House. The GDC awards are given out by prominent devs and figures in the gaming community, so that means that the jerk of a goose found its way into the hearts of both gamers and developers alike. There is a reason whyUntitled Goose Gamewas listed as one of the Switch’s most downloadedin 2019; it’s an award-winning good time that has everyone hooked.
Untitled Goose Gamewasn’t the only indie title to go home with awards from the GDC. The strangely enthrallingDisco Elysiumand the fun puzzle gameBaba is Youalso earned some recognition. But amidst the triple-A titles, it’s both surprising and reassuring to see the creativity of a smaller studio rewarded.Untitled Goose Gameis not done yet, though, as the title will be going up against the likes ofModern WarfareandDeath Strandingat theBAFTAs this year, where it has been nominatedfor best game.
While there is no clue what the future holds for House House, the sheer amount of accolades likely has put it andGoose Gameon the map. Hopefully, gamers will see even more from the studio, including more games, more Goose DLC, and maybe even anUntitled Goose GameLEGO set.
