As manyUnchartedfans are well aware, it has taken years for the film based on the video game franchise to get off the ground, with the movie’s pre-production period having seen myriad shakeups since it was announced. That said, though, there’s a chance that we all may actually get to watch a major motion picture production featuringNathan Drakein our lifetimes, as director Shawn Levy recently teased that shooting for the movie could be underway soon.

According to Levy, theUnchartedfilm is “closest to the starting line” when it comes to all of theStranger Thingsdirector’s projects in the pipeline. He went on to say that the script for the movie is “very good” and that withSpider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland already cast in the starring role as Nathan Drake, the “schedule and additional casting” will come next. Summing up the movie’s current state in his slate of work, Levy said, “As of right now, [theUnchartedfilm] seems to be the most near horizon.”

As of now, this seems to be the most stable ground that theUnchartedmovie has been on since its inception, as there have been innumerable postponements since it was announced all the way back in 2009. As it so happens, the film project was going to start filming in early 2015 when Seth Gordon took over, despite the fact that the lead role had yet to be cast. Interestingly enough, rumors then came out a bit later on thatMark Wahlbergwas attached to play Nathan Drake, but of course, we know now to not be true.

All things considered, one can only hope for the sake of Levy and his crew that theUnchartedfilm’s shooting gets underway soon, as filmmaker Allan Ungar andFireflystar Nathan Fillion’sshort film based on the gamecould lead to “something more” in the near future and beat the movie to the punch. After all, many fans of the action-adventure franchise already consider Fillion to be the best choice for Nathan Drake, and will likely gravitate more toward whatever he and Ungar can cook up next if given the chance.
