The fate ofThorhas been revealed, and it’s changing everything about the Marvel hero, including just how violent he is. The very reality of the Marvel Universe has been rewritten andThor is no longer the godof Thunder he once was. Now he’s got a new, mortal life and a more realistic (and brutal) way of fighting evil.
WithThe Immortal Thorhaving come to a close, all eyes are on the follow-up series,The Mortal Thor, set for release in late August. The new series will follow Thor as he begins his new life as a mere mortal. But just because he’s no longer wielding Mjölnir doesn’t mean Thor won’t be using a hammer.

CoversforThe Mortal Thor’ssecond and third issues show Thor wielding a hammer, albeit one fit for construction, rather than summoning lightning. And yes,Thor will be using that hammer for an unintended purposeas the second issue’s cover shows it covered in blood, while the third issue’s cover sees Thor clobbering the Sons of the Serpent.
Marvel’s New Thor Literally Brings the Hammer Down
This Thor’s Violence is Getting All Too Real
Thor has been through some trying events in his life, but now he finds his life completely upended. Thanks to his brother Loki, Thor has perished, which led the Asgardian to confront the God of Lies, Donald Blake. During their battle, Thor managed to take the soul shared between them and created a new, mortal life for himself.
Thor’s mortal journey has yet to begin, but these covers show just how gruesome the battles ahead will be. Generally, whenever Thor fights with Mjölnir, it’s fantastical and over-the-top. Butthis new Thor is grounded in reality, and by the looks of things, Marvel Comics isn’t shying away from what shows when people actually fight using hammers.

Marvel’s New Thor is Going to Get Real While Getting Really Violent
The Mortal Thoris Going to be a Wild Ride
It’s easy to gloss over how violent using a hammer is when Thor fights frost giants or demons. But Thor is a mortal now and the real world isn’t fantastical. It can get violent and bloody quickly. Whatever awaits the former God of Thunder as he adjusts to human life,The Mortal Thoris sure to be a wild experience.
The Mortal Thor #1is available from Marvel Comics on June 20, 2025.
