Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character inThe Good Wifealmost had an alternate end to his arc, and Morgan suggests that this other storyline could have offered some much-needed closure. For a lot of TV viewers, their first introduction to Jeffrey Dean Morgan likely came inThe Walking Deadwhere he played Negan, a violent but charismatic antagonist in the series. However, Morgan had a long career before he started smashing zombies with his barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat. Notably,he starred inThe Good Wifeseason 7 as Jason Crouse, just a year before he made his debut inThe Walking Dead.
Jason Crouse is a former lawyer turned investigator who arrives inThe Good Wifeseason 7, episode 2, “Innocents”. He’s hired by Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) after they start their own firm as their own private investigator. While he was disbarred for allegedly punching a judge, it was slowly revealed that that story was exaggerated and that Jason is a much more respectable and capable employee than anyone would have guessed. He also strikes up a relationship with Alicia, though the end of the show doesn’t give much in the way of closure.

Alicia And Jason Spent All Season Getting Close Only For The Show To End Before Their Reunion
The final episode ofThe Good Wifeis season 7, episode 22, “End”. In it, Peter’s (Chris Noth) trial comes to an end, and though it first appears that Alicia will stand by Peter’s side, she instead chases after Jason. However, it then seems that he has left the building, and the two are never shown together on screen. So much for a season ofromance between Jason and Alicia inThe Good Wife. When asked about Alicia and Jason’s ending, Jeffrey Dean Morgan admitted he was less than thrilled (viaEW),
“I didn’t like it. But it’s not my show, you know what I mean? If Julianna was happy, then I was happy. My feeling was we raised so many questions about Jason and this relationship that he had with Alicia that I felt like nothing was ever answered, you know? So I walked away frustrated for my character and Alicia’s character in not having any kind of closure with that.”
Jason and Alicia clearly have a strong connection throughout season 7, and it’s a relationship that grows organically. Then, as the Peter trial gets underway, Jason starts to consider that Alicia will elect to stay with her husband, despite everything he’s done, because it’s in her nature to be self-sacrificing.It’s a good question, but we don’t get a good answer to itand are left scratching our heads.
The Good Wife Creatives Wanted Morgan Back For Reshoots
As much as he disliked the final episode ofThe Good Wifeand the ending his character received,Jeffrey Dean Morgan admitted that there may have been more to the story if he returned for reshootsas he was asked. Morgan said,
“I know that I got a call two weeks later after we wrapped and I was already in Atlanta, and they were like, ‘We want to do a little bit of a reshoot,’ and I couldn’t do it. I was like, ‘I film tomorrow,’ so there’s no way I could get back in. I don’t know what that would have consisted of. I don’t think anything that would have changed the story dramatically or anything.”
There’s a chance that there could have been more to the Jason and Alicia storyline, perhaps with Alicia actually managing to catch Jason after chasing him. That’s never been suggested by anyone in production, so it’s pure speculation, but there aren’t many more options for what elseThe Good Wifecould do with more Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Maybe the extra shots would simply be of Jason continuing on his way after leaving the courthouse.
Morgan was preparing to shootThe Walking Deadwhen he got the call, so there was virtually no scenario where he would step away from a series and roles as big as that to shoot a few pickups for a show that he was already frustrated with. He made the right choice, even if we now have to wonder what those extra scenes could have been.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Thinks Alicia & Jason Got Their Happily Ever After
Morgan Chooses To Believe Jason And Alicia Found One Another
With nothing official to go on, fans have to use their imagination to decide what ended up happening to Jason and Alicia. However, if you listen to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, you’ll probably be pleased. Morgan, for his part, thinks things ended well for the couple. He said,
“I think if she [Alicia] was out looking for him [Jason], if it left on her chasing him down the hallway and she sees his silhouette and she goes chasing after him and runs into Diane, and she’s trying to get him on the phone — my feeling is that Jason would have picked up that phone and would have gone and scooped her up. That was always my feeling. I would have liked to have seen that, but who knows?”
For Morgan, it would make the most sense that Jason and Alicia would end up together, and the end ofThe Good Wifedoesn’t suggest that it’s impossible they do find one another. In fact, that Alicia chases after him should be reason alone to suggest that they will end up with one another.The Good Wifefeels like a much more complete show if Alicia and Jason end up together, and though the real ending is left ambiguous, ambiguity cuts both ways, you can imagine it how you’d like.
