I certainly didn’t have it on my 2025 bingo card thatThe Witcher 3, a game that released all the way back in 2015, would be getting more story DLC, but, according to Polish podcasters,Rock and Borys, that’s exactly what is happening. Uploaded to the YouTube channel,Remigiusz Maciaszek,Remigiusz and Borys discussed the many upcomingWitcherprojects, including thehype-inducing upcomingWitcher 4, and the aforementioned DLC forThe Witcher 3. Of course, it is based on an undisclosed source, so it’s important to take it all with a healthy pinch of salt.
Remigiusz and Borys explained - as translated by YouTube’s auto-translation -that the “mysterious project by CD Projekt Red […] is a story DLC for The Witcher 3.“They then go on to explain that “this is confirmed information from several independent sources,” although they obviously don’t explain who. It all sounds relatively promising, and not exactly out of the realm of possibility.Cyberpunk 2077continues to get updates several years later, and there is even anotherhuge update coming toCyberpunkthis year. There’s nothing stopping CD Projekt Red from givingThe Witcher 3the same love.
Interestingly,Remigiusz and Borys further explain that this DLC likely won’t release this year, but, according to a source, will, at the earliest, release “next year at the earliest,” so, 2026. It is hard to gauge just how big this rumored DLC will be forThe Witcher 3. It isn’t uncommon for support developers to assist with the production of additional content, especially for games that have long since stopped main production, likeThe Witcher 3. Fool’s Theory is an excellent choice, as its RPG,The Thaumaturge, which was released back in 2024, was praised primarily for itsexcellent writing and characters. While its style of combat differs fromThe Witcher 3’s,what is most important is that new story content for CD Projekt Red’s seminal RPG matches the quality of writing fans have come to expect.
Fool’s Theory can undeniably deliver that, and its Polish roots will also likely help them delve deeper into the country’s folklore that so heavily inspired the books and thus the video game adaptation. Of course,it also helps that CD Projekt Red already has a working relationship with Fool’s Theoryand thus a lot of confidence in it as a developer. Their current working relationship also gives credence to the idea that it has been tasked to develop additional story content for The Witcher 3, especially as it’s already immersed within that world with its other project.
CDPR Seems To Have A Lot Of Confidence In Fool’s Theory
It Is Developing The Witcher Remake
Fool’s Theory is currently developing the aforementionedWitcher 1remake for CD Projekt Red. According to itsofficial website, it began development on the remake all the way back in 2022, beforeThe Thaumaturgewas even released. It had, prior to that, released another RPG titledSeven: The Days Long Gone, which was similarly critically acclaimed, although it largely flew under the radar.CD Projekt Red clearly saw something in Fool’s Theory all the way back thento entrust it with the development of the remake.
It makes sense then that it would also trust it to develop more content forThe Witcher 3, especially after its critical success withThe Thaumaturge.That confidence in Fool’s Theory is obviously not unfounded, and it is definitely a good choice for the task, especially thanks to both it and CD Projekt Red working in the same narrative-heavy RPG space. Of course, it remains to be seen whether Fool’s Theory manages to pull it off, but I, for one, especially after having beatenThe Thaumaturge, have complete confidence in it to deliver an incredible story DLC.
That is, of course, if it is indeed real. One would hope that it is, especially asThe Witcher 3still holds up today as one of gaming’sbest open-world RPGs. There is room for more stories and quests for Geralt to embark on, especially after the phenomenalBlood and WineandHearts of Stoneshowed us what that could look like. While it is always important to take any rumors, no matter how tantalizing they sound, with a pinch of salt, I can’t help but hope thatThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntdoes indeed get more story content.
