Vikram’s Apparently Been Listening To A Lot More Than Taylor Swift
Named for Bogdan Gregor, the general Vikram faced in the first episode, Gregor’s Hammer is a heavy metal band that grew out of the general’s loyal nineteenth-century cult. Vikram determined that the band was a group of harmless wannabes who learned about Gregor through history, although it was revealed soon after that lead guitarist Winslow Lynch can communicate with Gregor across time.
Despite nobody witnessing this reveal, it’s still a bit surprising whenThe Librarians: The Next Chapter’s Lysa Pascalhires the scream metal band for a bachelorette party in episode 8. And if that weren’t surprising enough, it also turns out thatVikram and the band have rehearsed an entire song together about the first episode’s Drekavac.
Not only have they rehearsed the song, but it appears Vikram played a hand in writing it as well.The song’s lyrics specifically reference Vikram returning to fight the Drekavac after a long absence, a story he couldn’t have told Gregor’s Hammer without giving away magic’s existence. Fortunately, it sounds enough like a typical metal song not to raise suspicions.
But Lynch also takes Vikram’s lyrics in stride because he already knows about Vikram’s history through Gregor. In fact,Lynch attends the gig in new glasses made of scrying glass so Gregor can watch everything. And while it’s odd that heavy metal plays such a large role in facilitating Gregor’s return, episode 8’s twist makes the villain twice as foreboding.

Gregor Now Knows Enough About Vikram’s Personal Life To Ruin Him
Vikram performing with a metal band vaguely recalls one ofThe Librarians’ best episodes, in which Galahad joins up with aDungeons & Dragonscrew. Butthe twist that Gregor’s been spying on Vikram’s personal life brings a more urgent sense of gravity toThe Next Chapter. When they next face off, Gregor will have new insights into Vikram’s weaknesses.
Gregor even emphasizes this as a key point in his plan. Although it hasn’t yet been revealed how he may return,Bogdan Gregor now knows who Vikram cares about in a timeline where Gregor cares about no one. This means he can use Vikram’s emotions against him by threatening his friends, whereas Vikram’s ultimately powerless to run a similar play.
Charlie’s actorJessica Green promises a bigger season 2 forThe Librarians: The Next Chapter, and it remains unseen whether Gregor will survive to be part of it or not. Nonetheless,Vikram now has personal stakes in both returning to his own timeline for Anya and remaining in the present for his friends.
It previously seemed like Vikram’s greatest conflict when it came to going home would be that doing so could threaten the timeline. Now,The Librarians: The Next Chapterhas introduced new personal stakes that make the decision even more difficult. Whether Gregor plays a direct hand in which choice Vikram makes, the villain’s future return is already enhancing the spinoff’s storyline.
