Among the announcements that came from theFebruary 2021 Nintendo Directwas the news that the 1999 action RPGLegend of Manawould see a remastered released on the Switch this summer. For most, this is strictly a digital release, but Japan is getting another option. The Square Enix store has recently opened orders for a physical edition of the game that comes with plenty of extras.

TheLegend of Manacollector’s edition will be available for both the PS4 and Nintendo Switch and comes with a copy of the game, an art book, an official soundtrack, and an adorable Li’l Cactus plush. It’s only available in Japan and is priced at 14,3000 yen. It will launch at the same time as its digital counterpart on June 24.

Originally released for the PlayStation,Legend of Manais the fourth game in theManaseries. Like others in the series, it is an actionrole-playinggame starring a silent protagonistand has a top-down perspective. What set this entry apart was its exclusion of a fixed world that’s ready to explore. Players use a “Land Make” system to generate the world by placing objects on the map. While the series doesn’t have as many games as Square Enix’s most famous franchise,Final Fantasy,Legend of Manaranks highly asone of the bestManagames overall.

TheManaseries has made a comeback following the release of 3D remakes ofAdventure of ManaandSecret of Mana, one of the most beloved games in the series. In 2019,Collection of Manawas released, packaging together the first three games in theManafranchise. A complete remake ofTrials of Manasaw huge sales following its launchthe following year. Square Enix clearly sees promise in revitalizing the franchise for modern audiences, so it will be interesting to see what the company has lined up next.
