It’s time for fans ofDC’s Legends of Tomorrowto celebrate, as the iconic television team has made a shocking jump into comic canon. The bad news: they’re being hunted by an army aiming to kill all time travelers.
The shocking revelation arrives with little warning inJustice League: Dark Tomorrow Special#1, as a masked superhero seeks help from DC’s greatest heroes. But it’s the character’s vehicle which begins to establish the TV/comic crossover, instantly recognizable asthe Waverider piloted by the Arrowverse’s time traveling squad.

The ship is only the first of several clues dropped forLegends of Tomorrowviewers, with the most important one being the true identity of the hero hiding beneath the mask (for now).
Legends of Tomorrow Returns, As One Member Crashes The Waverider Into DC Canon
Justice League: Dark Tomorrow Special#1 by Mark Waid, Marc Guggenheim, Cian Tormey, Romulo Fajardo Jr.
The special issue functions as part of the larger Darkseid and Omega-powered storyline set to drive the Justice League intothe massiveDC K.O.fighting tournament. But as it is co-written by Mark Waid and Arrowverse co-creator Marc Guggenheim, this twist begins to make more sense.
To be clear, while the storyline seesa new group of time traveling heroes board the Waverider, in effect forming a new Legends of Tomorrow team, the tale is more than just a relaunch. The hero known only as “Legend” gives fans every reason to believe they lived the events of The CW series, before entering the reality and timeline of DC’s main Earth-1 reality.

The hero makes multiple references to a past working with Jonah Hex (Season 2, Episode 6), having run-ins with Gorilla Grodd (Season 3, Episode 7), and even associating the out-of-time Vanishing Point with death (where Captain Cold died in Season 1, Episode 15).
Given the clues, fans of theLegends of Tomorrowseries should be asking one question. Now that the characters and series history has just entered the main DC canon…which of the show’s cast of heroes is hiding underneath the mask?

Who is The Secret ‘Legend’ From The TV Show’s Cast?
Nate Heywood, Mick Rory, Even Leonard Snart Could Be Hiding Under Legend’s Mask
On the surface, the character’s decision to not reveal their face or name is simple enough. With time travel involved, it’s possible for almost any current Justice League hero to someday become this time traveler. Secrecy to keep the timeline intact is fine, but when prompted for their name amidst so many other nods to the Arrowverse team, the hero’s response says it all: “Call Me Legend.”
Fans looking for clues as towhich member of theLegends of Tomorrowcastwon’t have much to go, with most references pointing to multiple events or experiences shared by several, at least. Leonard Snart, a.k.a. Captain Cold seems like a long shot, and the hero’s depiction seems a poor fit for Mick Rory, a.k.a. Heat Wave. But two candidates seem the most likely.
From the powerset on display, demeanor, and experience with the referenced events, the version of Ray Palmer portrayed by Brandon Routh could make sense (especially with an existing variant already known in this reality). ButNathan Heywood, portrayed by Nick Zano onLegends of Tomorrow, could be DC’s best option.
Heywood has the benefit of not only being a fan-favorite for CW fans, but Nate being revealed as the masked ‘Legend’ would actually avoid Multiverse drama. The existing version of Nathan, a.k.a. Citizen Steel hasn’t been seen since 2011. A necessary absence if this Legends version is intended to join this universe permanently. Or even better, explaining why the main DC Universe’s Nate has been missing for over a decade.
