Last year, it was revealed thatNegan fromThe Walking Deadwould be making his way to theTekken 7roster as yet another guest fighter for the game. Now, many months after Negan’s initial announcement, and we finally have a release date for hisTekken 7debut.
As revealed in a new trailer,The Walking Dead’s Negan will be coming toTekken 7on February 28. He will come equipped with his signature barbedwire-wrapped baseball bat Lucille, which he uses as his primary weapon while he whacks and trash-talks his opponents. There also appears to be a stage based onThe Walking Deadmodeled after the infamous “eenie meenie miney moe” scene, where Negan lined up some of the show’s central characters and selected some to be executed via baseball bat.
To that end, Negan has some moves that seem based on the way he fights in the show. One move sees Negan slam his bat on the top of his opponents' skulls, and another sees him stab them in the gut with the large knife that he uses to literally disembowel an unlucky character on the show.
Besides confirming Negan’s release date and showing off some of his moves in the game, the newTekken 7trailer also shines a spotlight on Julia. Julia will be coming toTekken 7on the same day as Negan, so players will have the chance to download her on February 28 as well.
Negan is definitely a unique choice for aTekken 7guest fighter, especially since his fighting style seems more natural in a game likeMortal Kombatinstead. However,Tekkenhas a history of bizarre guest fighters.Tekken 7itself has a number of guest fighters, includingStreet Fighter’s Akuma andFatal Fury’s Geese Howard.Tekken 7also features Noctis, the main protagonist ofFinal Fantasy 15, as DLC.
It’s been nearly two years sinceTekken 7’s launch, but the game is still receiving regular support from Bandai Namco. Perhaps some of this future support will include more guest fighters as DLC.
Tekken7is out now for Arcade, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
