Taylor Tomlinson has given an emotional farewell response toAfter Midnight, as CBS has canceled the show. The late-night comedy panel game show, executive produced bytalk show host legend Stephen Colbert, has been hosted by Tomlinson since its debut in January 2024. Despite two seasons, the comedian made the decision to leave in March, choosing to focus on continuing touring as a comedian.

Tomlinson, who was a finalist onLast Comic Standingin 2015, gave anemotional speech declaring her departure from the show, and stating how much her time as a host had meant to her. Taylor Tomlinson Quarter-Life Crisis special

“I’m so grateful that I got a chance to do this. I never thought that I would be able to host a late-night show. This was never something that was on my vision board at all because I just didn’t think it was possible for me. I’m a touring standup and I feel very grateful to have that career that I do, and this opportunity came along at a time in my life where I could take advantage of it, and, while, unfortunately, I couldn’t keep doing the show, it just wasn’t sustainable for me.

I can’t believe that I got to do it as long as I did… I really wanted CBS to replace me, because I just think there are so many amazing comedians who would have done a great job with this show.”

What This Means For Tomlinson’s After Midnight Legacy

It Will Have Been An Important Experience For Enhancing Her Career

With almost 200 episodes of the show produced so far, and two seasons of late-night panel show hosting under her belt,After Midnighthas been a career shift for Tomlinson, and has broadened her experience as a comedian. Though it is a shame that the show is being canceled, as opposed to gaining a new host and continuing, it will have been an excellent experience for her, and one that could help with future Tomlinson Netflix specials.

Interestingly,After Midnightwas originally renewed for a third season, but after Tomlinson announced her desire to leave and continue her comedy touring, the decision was made to axe the show. This could be seen as a testament to the faith CBS had in Tomlinson, and it’s clear they saw her as a valuable asset to the point where they were prepared to cancel the show rather than replace her.

Our Take On Tomlinson’s After Midnight Legacy

The Star’s Stint Was Brief But Memorable & She Could Return To Hosting In The Future

Tomlinson is a comedian first and foremost, and will likely feel more comfortable back touring, and doing comedy shows. Hosting around 200 episodes of late-night shows in 18 months is certainly an intense schedule, and she may simply have wanted a change of pace. There is a chance that Tomlinson missed touring and, as one of thefunniest female stand-up comedianson the circuit, wanted to return to her comedy roots, and this could have informed her decision to leaveAfter Midnight. She could well return to hosting in the future, and there’s a chance CBS will be keen to work with her again.
