The actionRPGSword Art Online: Alicization Lycorisis the first video game adaptation of the popular anime seriesSword Art Online. Recently, it was revealed that only one player in the world has unlocked the game’s secret ending.
On September 19, there was a livestream forSword Art Online: Alicization Lycoriswith the game’s Producer Yousuke Futami and Medina cosplayer Sayuki. Futami notified players of the game’s 1.09 update, which brought various improvements to frame rate and balancing gameplay, and said only one player in the world unlocked the Medina route and Lycoris Ending.

It’s not new for video gamesto have secrets endings in their campaigns, particularly those unlocked after a major achievement. The recentSamurai Jack: Battle Through Timehas asecret ending, which caught fans of the series off-guard. Futami said the game’s developer Aquria had the ending set before release, and tracking players’ data it was able to tell who unlocked this secret.
There are a few hints to Medina’s route and foreshadowing for the Lycoris Ending, much to the surprise of some players. This isn’t new to video games, whichhave a history of secret endingsthat sometimes few players ever stumbled upon. With the release of the 1.09 patch, the Medina route and Lycoris Ending will apparently be easier to reach than before.
