Super Meat Boy Forevermay feel like it’s been in development forever, but that’s quick to come to a conclusion. During The Game Awards 2020, Team Meat shared the latest trailer forSuper Meat Boy Forever. The trailer concluded with the game’s newly updated release date, which had previously been a broad window of 2020. Team Meat is delivering on that promise, asSuper Meat Boy Forever’s new release date will be December 23, less than two weeks from now.
The newSuper Meat Boy Forevertrailer showed off a mix of the game’scinematics as well as gameplay. the cinematics are fully animated with the appearance of a Saturday morning cartoon show. The gameplay is both familiar and unique. It’s still the same 2D platforming gameplay of the original game, at its core. However, it features much larger levels and a style that seems better fitting for a level creator. That same level of challenge definitely seems to be retained, too.

Speaking of a level editor, it’s still planned thatSuper Meat Boy Foreverwill receive one after launch. At least, that was the plan the last time thatTeam Meatdiscussed it.Super Meat Boy Foreveris also supposed to get a DLC pack that ups the difficulty to the extreme, too. Suffice to say, December 23 is just the start of Team Meat’s plans forSuper Meat Boy Forever,and there’s plenty more to come.
It’s been six years since the development ofSuper Meat Boy Foreverbegan. The project’s had its ups and downs since then, with one ofSuper Meat Boy’s original creators,Edmund McMillen, leaving the team, and the scope of the project growing from a mobile game to a full sequel. There’s definitely a story to tell aboutSuper Meat Boy Forever’s development sometime in the future. For now, fans of the franchise can be happy it’s being released.
