Stranger Thingshas given Steve Harrington several of the show’s best friendship duos throughout its four seasons so far, but there is actually one other potential pairing that season 4 ignored. After beginning the series as a stereotypical jock and a bit of a bully, Steve has become one of the bestcharacters inStranger Things.

Steve Harrington’s redemption arcwas certainly helped along by the wholesome dynamic he had with Dustin and later Robin, solidifying him as a loyal friend. Now, going intoStranger Thingsseason 5, the final episodes of the series have the chance to explore a new connection for Steve that could make him even more lovable.

Lucas & Steve’s Hawkins High Basketball Connection Made Them A Great Potential Stranger Things Duo

The Show Could Have Explored The Shared Stress Of Having To Fit In With A New Group

After seeing the younger group ofStranger Thingscharacters largely take part in hobbies like Dungeons & Dragons in the early seasons,Stranger Thingsseason 4 switched things up for Lucas Sinclair. Though he joined the Hellfire Club like his friends,he also joined the basketball team, instantly putting him in a more popular group.

This new update for the characterimmediately made Lucas more like Steve Harrington in seasons 1 and 2. Despite both being kind characters, Lucas joining the basketball team and having to choose how to socialize with his less popular friends creates a clear parallel to Steve’s arc.

Both characters shared the feeling of having to prove themselves, though Steve could have helped Lucas see that popularity is not worth it.

ThoughStranger Thingsseason 4 never gave Steve and Lucas any one-on-one scenes like Steve has often had with Dustin,it could have been a great opportunity for the older character to impart some wisdom to Lucas. Both characters shared the feeling of having to prove themselves, though Steve could have helped Lucas see that popularity is not worth it.

Stranger Things Season 5’s Trailers Make A Steve & Lucas Pairing Look Unlikely

Steve Has Other Classic Pairings That Deserve Focus In The Final Season

While it would be nice to see Steve and Lucas interact a bit more, especially since Lucas felt more disconnected from his friends in season 4,Stranger Thingsseason 5’s trailer makes that seem unlikely. Instead, the new teaser hints thataudiences will be treated to the return of a popular pairing.

Stranger Things' season 5 trailer shows Dustin and Steve togetheragain, paying off a fan-favorite friendship. Given that it is the final season of the beloved series,it does make sense that Netflix would choose to focus on a dynamic that has been incredibly successfulfor the show and doesn’t add too many new elements.

Likewise, Lucas may be very preoccupied in season 5. Depending on whether Max remains in a coma, it would not make sense for Lucas’s life to return to normal or for him to focus on popularity. While Lucas and Steve could have been a good pairing forStranger Things, it sadly might add too much to a packed final season.
