Owen Wilson’sStickis setting up two big romances at the same time, and I hope one of them is ready to develop by the time the Apple TV+ show’s first season is over. A big chunk of themain cast ofStickis preparing for relationships. Santi (Peter Dager) and Zero (Lilli Kay) clearly have some chemistry together, and they’re only growing closer as Santi’s golf tour goes on.Pryce’s (Wilson) plan with Zero inStickalso pretty much ensures that they’re going to start a relationship, and Pryce may even be able to offer Santi some advice as his stand-in male role model.
Santi and Zero’s relationship is almost a sure thing, but there’s another, more surprising, romance brewing alongside theirs inStickseason 1. Elena (Mariana Treviño) and Mitts (Marc Maron) could easily get together by the end of the season. However, there are only five more episodes left inStickseason 1’s release schedule, and there’s still a big thing the golf comedy has to set up before the romance can happen. I sincerely hope they do get together, and I hopeStickhas time to do their romance right.
Stick Is Subtly Setting Up A Romance Between Elena & Mitts
Along with Santi and Zero’s relationship, it looks like Elena and Mitts are also heading towards a romance of their own.Stickis setting up a classic enemies-to-lovers trope: Elena and Mitts hated each other when they first met, and they fought about Elena’s dogs, Mitts' Doubletree points, and everything else. ByStickepisode 5, however, their relationship is really progressing well. Mitts shared his concerns about Zero to Elena, for example, and Elena actually listened to him. Mitts also invited Elena to stay in the camper and take the big bed for herself, and he even let the dogs sleep on his chest.
Mitts and Elena also have a huge amount of chemistry thatStickprobably wants to take advantage of. They’re both stubborn as mules and positive that they have everything figured out, but their stubbornness is so similar that they actually make each other see things from a different perspective. Elena also provides the perfect foil to Mitts' crankiness, and she’s actually gotten him to lighten up a bit after being a self-described rude person for the entire trip.Elena and Mitts are honestly pretty cute together, which is another reasonStickhas to have them start a romance.
In addition to Elena and Mitts' on-screen chemistry, there’s another reason they might get together by the end ofStickseason 1. A huge theme ofStickhas been the concept of moving on: Elena and Santi need to move on from Gary’s abandonment, Pryce needs to move on from Jett’s death and his failed golf career, and Mitts needs to move on from his wife, Francine’s, death.Both Elena and Mitts have (well-founded) hang-ups with romantic relationships, and they could help each other move on by starting a relationship with one another.

Before Mitts and Elena can start a romantic relationship with one another,Stickhas to reveal what really happened with Santi’s father, Gary. We know that Gary walked out on Elena and Santi just before Santi stopped playing golf, but we don’t know how their family fell apart or how Elena has been dealing with it.Before putting her in a new relationship with Mitts,Stickshould really give Elena a chance to confront her past with Gary and deal with it in a healthy way. Part of moving on is leaving the past behind, which Elena still needs to do.

Elena should get a chance to put Gary’s emotional abuse behind her before she starts a relationship with Mitts. We’ve already gotten some good insight into Mitts' history and how his life basically stopped once Francine died, but we haven’t seen much of how Elena handled Gary’s abandonment.By diving into what really happened with Gary,Stickcan put Elena in a more healthy place emotionally, one where she’s ready to start a romance with Mitts. It would give her some much-appreciated character development and make their romance stronger from the start. Plus, it would be good forStickto finally reveal the darkest part of Elena and Santi’s backstory.
