While mostStar Wars-related multimedia franchises have been thriving as of late, DICE and EA’sStar Wars Battlefrontwas met with heavy criticism upon its launch and failed to live up to the lofty expectations many gamers had for it. That’s largely the reason why, before E3 2017, fans had been relatively indifferent towards the idea ofStar Wars Battlefront 2.

Whatever apathy might have lingered amongst players of the original title from DICE and EA, however, has almost certainly evaporated now. TheStar Wars Battlefront 2behind-the-scenes footage from E3 2017was a massive hit, and the game’s official gameplay trailer had been immensely popular over the course of E3, even though it was uploaded several days after other major game trailers. Now, YouTube’s analytics department - and a quick glance at video view counts - has revealed thatStar Wars Battlefront 2’s trailer was the most watched of E3 2017 by a landslide. For those who might not have caught it, or want a refresher, the trailer is right here:

While theshowcase ofBattlefront 2is impressive in its own right, especially since it managed to win over so many fans who had been skeptical of the game’s development after its first iteration, the competition the trailer managed to beat out for first is staggering.Star Wars Battlefront 2’s trailer garnered just shy of 9 million viewers, and the next closest game,Super Mario Odyssey, clocked in around 5.5 million for second place. That’s a huge discrepancy, and one that shows just how much power theStar Warslicense wields in the video game industry.

Of course, part of that success might also be attributed to the fact that DICE and EA appear to have learned from the past mistakes the developer and publisher duo made onStar Wars Battlefront. In addition to the compelling single-player gameplay that will be featured in the game,Star Wars Battlefront 2will be getting free post-launch DLCas well, and that commitment from DICE could have garnered a lot of good will toward the developer’s second crack at theBattlefrontfranchise.
