Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis undoubtedly one of the most anticipated titles of this generation, and fans are eager to get their hands on what will only be the first of what could be several instalments of this seemingly massive game. So far, the game has only been announced for PS4, but it seemed like Xbox fans were thrown a bone yesterday when the official Facebook page for Xbox Germany posted a video confirming that theunannounced Xbox One version would release on the same day. Sadly, in less than a day, Square Enix has shut that idea down.

In an official statement to VGC, the publisher reiterated thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakewould release on PS4 next March and that it has “no plans for other platforms.” This does sort of match up with a previous statement it made last month where it said that the game would “debut first” on PS4 but, at the same time, the wording does suggest that it would come to other platforms at a later date. Plus, Square Enix’s CEO Yosuke Matsuda has confirmed that the game would beplayable on the upcoming PS5as well, though it’s unknown whether he meant that a new version of it would be made for the console or if it will be playable through backward compatibility.

As for the video, it has since been removed from the Xbox Germany Facebook page. Furthermore, Xbox DACH marketing and social lead Maxi Gräff posted an apology on Twitter, saying that this was an internal mistake and that they have no announcements regardingFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeappearing on the Xbox One.

Xbox owners looking forward toFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeare most likely feeling particularly frustrated at the moment, as this also follows from when GameStop Irelandaccidentally put up a listing for pre-orders for Xbox One versionsof the title. It seems safe to say at this point that ifFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeever comes to Xbox One, it almost certainly won’t be on the same day as the PS4 version of the game.

Final Fantasy 7 Remakewill launch on PS4 on March 3rd 2020.
