To the surprise of few, Marvel’s PS4 exclusive titleSpider-Manhas been a behemoth on the sales front, having broken anumber of records for Sony. Now, despite launching only on the PlayStation 4, it has taken the title of the second fastest selling game in the UK for 2018 from the multi-platform release,Far Cry 5. It comes second only toFIFA 19, which might actually confuse some.
For some, sports games typically fill a niche, butFIFA 19is a real powerhouse in the UK. After all, it became the top selling game of the year with just its debut sales. More than that, however, it still takes first place despite the 25% drop it suffered compared toFIFA 18.In other words, only a true blockbuster likeSpider-Mancould giveFIFA 19a run for its money.
Of course, the web-slinger is not without his accolades. It has not only taken the aforementioned title fromFar Cry 5, but alsoSpider-Manhas already outsold the life-to-date sales ofFar Cry 5, which first launched in March. The Webhead also beat out Kratos in launch week sales, doubling what the PS4 exclusiveGod of Warhad done.
With these accomplishments, it seems likely thatSpider-Mangoes down on the books as one of the best-selling PS4 exclusive games of all time, as it continues to rack up the accolades in the UK and across the world. It remains to be seen how the game’sDLC planswill bolster or influence these numbers, but many would likely gladly return to the role of the web-slinger.
Despite all the accoladesSpider-Manhas under its belt, the strangest has to be theGuinness World Recordinspired by the game. Per a Comic-Con event, Marvel and Sony gathered over 500 people dressed up asSpider-Man, breaking a previously held record of 400+ people. From big to small, it seemsSpider-Mancan do it all.
