Bethesda’s E3 2017 press conferencealways promised to be big, and it has done little to disappoint. After a series of big announcements made about games likeThe Elder Scrolls Legendsand a new Creation Club project, Bethesda unveiled that one of the developer’s most popular games would be coming to the Nintendo Switch very soon.The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimwill be coming to Nintendo’s newest hybrid device in the near future.
Perhaps the biggest news stemming from the announcement was the one that revealedSkyrimwould be launching on the Nintendo Switch within this calendar year. According to the trailer,Skyrimon Switch will be arriving later this year, with an official release window of fall 2017. That’s also been confirmed by Nintendo’s official product page for the game.
The brief trailer that was shown also included a rather shocking feature. Apparently, the Switch version ofSkyrimwill feature Amiibo support, spawning treasure chests that include iconic Nintendo game references. Dreams of the Dragonborn wielding the Master Sword appear to be more than just fantasy - or epic mod content - now, as the dream partnership ofNintendo and Bethesdaappears to be making it a reality.
Ultimately, though, the big draw to the Switch version ofSkyrimwill inevitably be the fact that it will be a portable version of what has quickly become an iconic entry inThe Elder Scrollsfranchise lore. AlthoughSkyrimhas been done to death, including a remastered version released in recent memory, it is exactly the kind of RPG bombshell the Switch has already been proven to thrive on - gamers need look no further thanThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildto see just how enthralling an open-world title can be on Nintendo’s console.
