The Ubisoft E3 2017 press conference included the surprise reveal of pirate gameSkull and Bones. Although the company revealed amultiplayer gameplay trailerfor the title, Ubisoft has now confirmed that it will offer single player content too.

The confirmation thatSkull and Boneswill have a single player campaign comes from the official FAQ for the game. Ubisoft explains that it is “building a narrative system which is completely integrated in the game and will not be something aside of the multiplayer experience.” TheSkull and Bonesreveal trailerdid seem to hint at some big characters and huge battles, including a Kraken tease at the end, so perhaps they will be part of this narrative content.

Although Ubisoft is keeping the single player details to itself for now, many will agree that offering narrative content is a good idea.Skull and Bonesis inspired byAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagand one of the reasons why that game did so well is that it allowed players to live out their pirate fantasies. While great naval gameplay was important, the storylines behind those high seas adventures were a key factor too.

Skull and Boneshaving a single player mode would also be massively useful to fans who need to get familiar with the new IP’s ship-sailing gameplay. The pirate title will borrow manyBlack Flagmechanics but it also asks players to consider wind as well as their position in the combat area. Story content would give players a chance to learn all of this without playing multiplayer, where they may instantly be blasted to timber because of their inexperience.

At this point it’s unclear how substantial this narrative content will be. WillSkull and Bonesoffer something as big as theFor Honorsingle player campaign? Or will Ubisoft offer a handful of missions instead? Ubisoft promises that “more details about a the single player campaign will be shared at a later date,” so hopefully the company will clear things up sooner rather than later.

Skull and Bonesis expected to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
