Croatian developer Croteam has today announced that it will be releasing the latest title in theSerious Samseries,Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass. The announcement was made during Croteam’s opening keynote at this year’s Reboot Develop 2018 conference and featured a teaser video in which the protagonist rides his motorcycle first through lush countryside, and then into a familiar horde of explosive adversaries.

Admittedly this 30-second teaser doesn’t do a lot in terms of informing players what features the game may have and what to expect from the story but it does look as though this is very much an updated, current-generationSerious Samtitle for the modern day. More information has been promised via an appearance at the Digital Devolver press conference at theElectronic Entertainment Expo (E3)in June but until then fans of the game will have to wait.

Followers of the series will know that there has not been an entry into the main series since 2011’sSerious Sam 3: BFE, also developed by Croteam, and there will be hopes that the game can pick up where it left off after the third iteration received a largely positive response. There have been some suggestions that this new release could have a more open-world for players to explore and the bike traveling across the lush terrain could add some fuel to the fire with this rumor.

As of yet, there are no further details regarding platform releases, although it is fair to expect that it will release for all of them.Serious Sam 3came with a staggered set of releases - the PlayStation 3 version of the game came out two years after the Xbox 360 title, and there is no word on whether or not any exclusivity deals will be signed. There has been speculation over a fourth title in the series for some time but at this stage concrete details are fairly thin on the ground. Announcements in June should bring new evidence and answer some of the questions fans are asking.

This new trailer will bring excitement for fans of the series who have been waiting for news on the latest game, and a certain sense of relief that it does not seem to be too much of a departure from the previous games.
