It seems that games are often inspired by or compared to theDark Soulsseries due to its popularity and success. An example of this isCode Vein, which is one of themost anticipated games of 2018, and is often described as an anime-basedDark Souls. Another example isThe Surge, which is a spiritual successor toLord of the Fallenand inspired bySouls.

Now,The Surge– a Sci-Fi action role-playing game – is receiving a sequel. The Surge2 is, once again, being made by publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Deck13. It is currently set to release at some point in 2019. At this point, however, very little is known, besides the following description by the publisher:

the_surge_2_artwork

“The Surge 2keeps what fans and critics loved about the original - hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression - while also expanding greatly upon the formula.

“The Surge 2takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system.

“In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.”

The above image is currently the only visual ofThe Surge 2,but it is rather impressive. The weapon and the exoskeleton seem to relate the image to the first game, with the encroaching darkness maintaining the decadent theme of the first game. Considering theDark Soulstrilogy is not set to release in the West, some gamers may wish to pick upThe Surge 2to satisfy theirDark Soulsneed.

Hopefully,The Surge 2adequately expands on the formula of the first game, and Deck13 delivers a more polished game. For those interested in picking up the original or checking out the sequel in 2019, here’sour review of the first game.
