New images from the set of theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot reveal Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to her most iconic role. It was announced earlier this year that Hulu was moving forward with a pilot for aBuffyreboot, with Oscar-winningNomadlanddirector Chloé Zhao directing the pilot. Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face,Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) are attached as writers.
Even though Gellar is set to reprise her seminal performance as Buffy Summers in a recurring capacity, the focus will turn to a new slayer. Ryan Kiera Armstrong, a young performer who broke out withStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, will play the lead character.
Set images from theNew York Posthave revealed the first look at Gellar’s return as Buffy Summers. The star ofI Know What You Did Last SummerandCruel Intentionsis dressed in a red mini dress with long sleeves, pink stilettos, with a deep V-neckline, and a large, fabric flower embellishment positioned at the waist. Gellar also appears to be holding a Yves Saint Laurent Sac de Jour handbag.

What Buffy’s Look Means For The Reboot
Gellar’s fashionable look has ignited a bit of discussion online. It’s not clear whether the Emmy-winning actor is in character or if she’s simply arriving at the set in Los Angeles. But assuming she is playing the role of Buffy, some have argued that the high-fashionable look isn’t how they remember Buffy Summers being.
The Zuckermans will executive produce, as will Zhao and Gellar alongside original producers Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzui. Dolly Parton, an uncredited producer during the original, is also among the executive producers for the 20th Television and Searchlight Television reboot.Franchise creator Joss Whedonis not involved in the project, following the 2021 allegations of misconduct and fostering a toxic work environment.
Others have argued that it’s been three years since the debut of the originalBuffy, and a lot could have changed in that time. It’s also been more than two decades since the original series wrapped. The point may indeed be that Buffy Summers is different from what viewers remember. But without knowing any concrete plot details, it’s difficult to say for sure.

More will be revealed about the project if theBuffyreboot gets officially picked up by Hulu. If the project does move forward, the plan is to begin filming the reboot and settle on a release date thereafter.

The fervent discussions about Gellar’s look prove how beloved the original was, withseveralBuffyepisodesthat genuinely helped to alter the course of television. It’s a tall task for the sequel to live up to given the original series' enduring legacy.
