The PS4-exclusiveSpider-Mangame was a huge success, earning critical-acclaim and standing as one of thebest-selling games of 2018. Considering this, a sequel toSpider-Manseems like an inevitability, and while it may be way too early to know whatSpider-Man 2might be like, the most recent issue of the tie-in comic may give fans an idea of at least one villain to expect.
InSpider-Man: City at War #2, Spider-Man faces off against the villain S.W.A.R.M. (Symbiotic Warfare Anthophila Restraining Model), a villain that is made out of bees and uses them in battle. S.W.A.R.M., or simply “Swarm” as he is known in the comics, was apparently meant to be included in the originalSpider-ManPS4 game, but was cut for unknown reasons.
However, even though Swarm wasn’t seen inSpider-Manon PS4, the character was still referenced in-game. There is a podcast segment by J. Jonah Jameson where he references a “Nazi made out of bees,” which was our first clue that Swarm exists in theSpider-Manvideo game universe.
Now that Swarm has been properly introduced in theSpider-Man: City at War #2comic (which exists in the same universe asSpider-Manon PS4), it has fueled rumors that he may be a villain inSpider-Man 2. The reality is it’s far too early to say whether or not there’s any merit to those rumors, asSpider-Man 2, if it’s even in active development at this time, is likely in the very early stages of development still.
Please note thatspoilersforSpider-Manon PS4 follow, but the ending of the game more or less confirms at least two villains Spider-Man will have to fight inSpider-Man 2. At the end ofSpider-Manon PS4, not only do we see Harry Osborne suspended in a vat of green liquid, hinting that the Green Goblin will be showing up in the sequel, but we also see what appears to be a symbiote, possiblyteasing Venom forSpider-Man 2as well.
WithSpider-Man 2not even announced yet, and likely a PS5 exclusive, it will be quite a long time before fans learn more about its story and villains. In the meantime, they can keep reading the tie-in comics for potential clues about what’s next for theSpider-Manvideo game franchise.
