The Zoologist & New Lizzy Managed To Win Big At The Space Casino

New Lizzy Gambled All The Duo’s Money On A Poker Game & Won

Despite bailing on the chance to secure the contents of the vault, season 8, episode 5’s zoologist and his pet monkey, New Lizzy, managed to win millions during a poker game. The zoologist first appeared after it was revealed that the young boy who Rick was impersonating had faked his death using bones that belonged to a monkey named Lizzy. Based on his reaction, the zoologist clearly looked out and cared for the animal, prompting him to join the space race so that he could pay for a new monkey. However, he didn’t need the fortune to make this happen.

While following the other flying vehicles, he came across a man fighting a monkey who he subsequently saved, which is the last time we see the zoologist until the post-credits scene. Here, it is revealed that he did in fact bond with this monkey, who he named New Lizzy, but the animal had bet all their money on a poker game. The pot was worth over $5 million, and despite the zoologist encouraging New Lizzy not to gamble their entire savings, the monkey called and won the hand, resulting in the duo becoming far richer than they could’ve imagined.

The post-credits scene perfectly paid off the zoologist’s role in the episode, making him and New Lizzy the space race’s true winners against all the odds.

AfterRick and Mortyseason 8, episode 4’s post-credits scenehad a more tragic conclusion, it was a nice change of pace to see the zoologist and New Lizzy get a happy ending. The final scene also brought back the casino where Jimmy and Cheechako had gambled earlier, and it perfectly paid off the zoologist’s role in the episode, making him and New Lizzy the space race’s true winners against all the odds.

Why New Lizzy & The Zoologist’s Fortune Is Surprisingly Fitting

The Zoologist Bailed On The Space Race While Everyone Else Was Overcome With Greed

Considering almost all the cryo ship’s residents were motivated by greed, it feels extremely fitting that the zoologist and New Lizzy were the ones to earn extreme wealth. Although the zoologist did have some choice words for New Lizzy during the monkey’s poker game, he was easily one of the most moral characters throughout the episode, as he only wanted the stolen loot to buy another monkey after his original one died. It’s clear he always had good intentions, while New Lizzy did nothing wrong throughout the entire adventure, suggesting that the duo were worthy of their riches.

In contrast, the rest of the community seemed to be interested in the valuables purely for selfish reasons, with Rick’s motivations also coming from a place of greed, since he is already extremely powerful and hardly needs more fortune. Therefore, seeing two deserving characters actually come away with a positive ending feels like a nice change of pace for the animated series, and “Cryo Mort a Rickver’s” satisfying conclusion makes it one ofRick and Morty’s more rewatchable episodes, continuing season 8’s strong form.
