Capcom has been working on theResident Evil 2remake for years, but fans have yet to see anything concrete on the project. Anyone impatient to revisit the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City may want to check outFar Cry 5to whet their appetite, as user ZergRex has used itsArcade mode map editorto remake the beginning area ofResident Evil 2.
ZergRex’sResident Evil 2map inFar Cry 5, simply called Raccoon City, is a Journey map-type, meaning it’s all about players reaching an exit. It starts off by giving players the choice between Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, who are equipped with a bow and a shotgun, respectively.
From the starting point, players can see the overturned, burning oil tanker that is also visible at the beginning ofResident Evil 2. They can then fight some “zombies” and travel through Raccoon City’s eerie alleyways until they reach Kendo’s Gun Shop. After spending some time with the ill-fated Kendo, players can then make their way to the Raccoon City Police Department, which is where the map ends.
ThisFar Cry 5remake ofResident Evil 2isn’t the only recent fan creation that celebrates the survival-horror classic. For example, aDying Lightmodwas released just a few weeks ago that allows players to explore the interior of the Raccoon City Police Department.
Some fans may be amused by theFar Cry 5Resident Evil 2map and theDying Lightmod, but others may be impatient for news on the actualResident Evil 2remake. As it stands, Capcom has shared virtually nothing about the game since its initial announcement, though rumors have suggested that it will use anover-the-shoulder camera likeResident Evil 4instead of the static camera angles used in the original game.
However, Capcom has yet to confirm or deny any of the rumors surrounding theResident Evil 2remake. Hopefully projects like the one showcased here can tide fans over while they wait for more information.
Far Cry 5is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
