In the last year,Pokemon GOhas added so many new features, events, and improvements that the game is nearly unrecognizable to players who only participated at launch. The team at Niantic continues to listen to player feedback and iterate on the game’s features to make the mobile AR experience more engaging and fun (and it’s still making tons of money). From the looks of a recent datamine, it sounds like the next wave of improvements may bring some extra motivation to do some trading with friends in the game.

InPokemon GO,a Lucky Tradecan occur, which will result in certain Pokemon becoming Lucky and then forever requiring much less Stardust to power up. These trades are pretty random, but chances increase when trading an extra old Pokemon (from closer to the game’s launch). Some new code unearthed by Chrales (a reliable source) suggests there may soon be a new way to guarantee a Lucky Trade with particular friends.

The code refers to a Lucky Friend feature, but details are still thin. It’s unclear how triggering a Lucky Friend status happens, but the results are clear. It sounds like the next trade with a Lucky Friend will be Lucky and both Pokemon traded will become Lucky Pokemon.

Players are already starting to speculate about how Lucky Friends will trigger, but the current popular theory is that this will be a way to motivate players to continue sending gifts to Friends after they’ve already reachedUltra Friend status. That would make sense and is another way to keep end-game players more engaged and busy.

We’ll monitor the situation and be sure update when more details about the incoming feature are officially confirmed. Be sure to check back for morePokemon GOstrategy guides, updates, and news in the coming weeks. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
