[UPDATE: The methods below are currently outdated. Here are new methods for catchingAerodactyl and other Fossil Pokemon updated for May 2019. Original story follows.]
Unfortunately,Pokemon GOplayers stuck on the Meltan Special Research quest can’t take advantage of the increased spawns seen during theLet’s Goevent last year. But those players do have a little luck, as Niantic has seen fit to include several of the required Pokemon, including rare fossil Pokemon like Aerodactyl, as rewards inJanuary’s Field Research quests.

This means that players who manage to find the particular task and complete it have a 100% chance of catching the Pokemon when it appears. Finding these tasks with an encounter reward is much easier than hoping to find the appropriate spawn, butPokemon GOplayers will want to verify they keep an eye out for the following quests.
Research Task (Reward)
Furthermore, there are also quests that help with other aspects of theMeltan Special Researchquest, including the Catch 5 Steel-type Pokemon, Catch 5 Electric-type Pokemon, Evolve a Magnemite, Evolve a Drowzee, Catch 5 Exeggcutes, and the Catch Cubone steps of the aforementioned special research.
Hopefully, players can track down the above steps they need to finally add the mythical Pokemon Meltan to their roster, especially for those who are stuck on Step 8, which requires players to catch Aerodactyl and the other fossil Pokemon. Luckily, for those who are stuck on step 8, it is the final step before catching Meltan, meaning that they can almost consider this special research in the books.
Pokemon GOis available now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
