This past weekend was the first annualPokemon GOFest in Chicago, Illinois serving as a gathering point for fans of the massively popular mobile game, with a few surprises mixed in. In what was supposed to be a grand moment for the game, the event unfortunately turned into somewhat of a disaster as aseries of service and technical problemsderailed the proceedings. Facing scrutiny and bad publicity, Niantic is working to make things right with its vocal community by extending the time on some pretty good in-game bonuses.
To continue to make its fans happy,Pokemon GOplayers will have an additional 72 hours to use special in-game bonuses enabled duringPokemon GOFest. Originally set to expire on July 24, players can continue to benefit from double XP, stardust, and candy, increased Pokemon spawn, and reduced walking distanced for eggs and buddy Pokemon.
The news comes on the heels of a previous announcement from Niantic, offering more compensation for playersattending the event. Attendees are getting a full refund for the cost of theirPokemon GOFest ticket in addition to $100 PokeCoins. Accessibility to special eggs and PokeStops had also been extended for attendees, but what may excite fans the most is that all attendees are getting a free legendary Lugia added to their accounts. Not a bad haul for simply attending the event.
One of the biggest announcements to come out of the event in Chicago is thatlegendary Pokemon are finally coming to the game. This includes the previously mentioned Lugia along with the original three birds: Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres. At this time, only Lugia and Articuno are readily available to be caught in game, as Team Mystic pulled out a victory during event Challenge over the weekend. While Mystic continues its victory lap with Articuno, Niantic is readying the other two legendaries for inclusion soon.
Pokemon Gois available now on iOS and Android.
