Just recently, Niantic decided to givePokemon GOplayers who happen to be in Seattle near PAX West the chance to hunt down and capture somePAX-themed Unown spawnsin the wildly popular mobile augmented reality game. Now, in an effort to continue expanding the amount of creatures trainers can catch, the developer has officially added Shiny Wingull to the ARG during the title’s latest Global Research event.

As part of this weekend’s Global Challenge inPokemon GO, Wingull has reportedly been appearing in droves all around the planet, and its Shiny version can be found among the flock as well. So, with the creature’s spawn rates having been increased, those who wish to catch the special iteration of the Water- and Flying-type will have a much better chance to do so at the moment, and will need to keep their eyes peeled for green tail and wing feathers instead of the blue feathers of its normal design.

While some might believe Wingull to be a strange choice for a featured Pokemon, it appears as if the reason why Niantic has upped its availability is due to the special relationships that sea gulls have with Yokosuka, Japan, which is host to a special livePoGOevent. As it so happens, the city’s official bird is the common gull, and Yokosuka even has an official sea gull mascot named Sucurry.

All things considered,Pokemon GOplayers definitely have plenty to keep them busy, with many looking forward to Niantic unveiling the game’s highly covetedUltra Bonus Rewardin just several days from now. Of course, this will only happen if trainers step up to complete the Global Challenge, which requires players around the world to cumulatively complete 1.6 million Field Research tasks.

Pokemon GOis available now for Android and iOS devices.
