WithPokemon GOplayers soon getting a much-requested update in the form of a more substantial quest system with the forthcoming inclusion of aField Researchfeature, it looks as if Niantic is steady at work when it comes to giving fans more to do in the popular augmented reality game. Of course, the developer will also continue to offer fresh items for trainers to spend their PokeCoins on, with the company announcing the addition of new Gym Leader avatar items.

As seen in the tweet below from the officialPokemon GOTwitter account, new in-game clothing options can be unlocked by obtaining tiers of the Gym Leader Medal, with the garb coming in three different colors – that is, depending on what team players are on, be it Team Instinct, Team Mystic, or Team Valor. For those wondering how much the whole ensemble costs, once the gear is unlocked, it should set players back 550 PokeCoins in total.

Pokemon GOplayers can earn the Gym Leader medal by defending gyms for a set number of hours, but in order to unlock the Gym Leader avatar items, one must be diligent about defending their title as Gym Leader. For instance, the Bronze Gym Leader medal is rewarded for defending gyms for 10 hours (unlocking a pair of gloves for 50 PokeCoins), the Silver medal is given by defending a gym for 100 hours (unlocking the shoes and bottoms that respectively cost 100 and 200 PokeCoins), and the Gold medal is earned for defending a gym for 1,000 hours (unlocking the top for 200 PokeCoins).

This isn’t the first instance ofPokemon GOunlocking new clothing options for players once they reached certain milestones and then charging PokeCoins for the items, as one can look to the previously includedBattle Girl, Jogger, and Fisherman outfitsas examples of this practice. So, while some may see this as a good incentive to keep playing the ARG to acquire items, others might view it as something that’s not worth pursuing, as players are required to work hard unlocking said items which then require the spending of PokeCoins to actually obtain them.

Pokemon GOis available now for Android and iOS devices.
