In just a few days, Japanese audiences will get to seePokemonthe Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution,a remake of the very firstPokemonfilm ever made. Alongside the release ofPokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, Pokemon partner Niantic will be holding its own special event inPokemon Go.

Starting July 10 and running through July 31,Pokemon Gowill be offering a special limited time raid encounter with Armored Mewtwo. Armored Mewtwo will be available solely in five-star raids, soPokemon Gotrainers looking to collect this rarePokemonshould prepare.

WithinPokemon Go, Armored Mewtwo will simply be a mirror of the originalMewtwo, just with an updated, armored look. The look stems from a time during Mewtwo’s life in which he partnered with the infamous Team Rocket to capturePokemonand act out other nefarious deeds at the behest of boss Giovanni. The armor allowed Mewtwo to focus its power, while also restraining them for Giovanni’s needs.

There’s clearly much more to Mewtwo’s story beyond working forTeam Rocket, of course. But its time as Armored Mewtwo was a pivotal moment for the character, leading directly into the events of the firstPokemonmovie. WhetherPokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolutionwill change that story remains to be seen.

As of writing, it’s unclear whether Armored Mewtwo will be akin to plainMewtwo’s original five-star, four-player raidover two years ago. But given Niantic’s tradition of reusing content with visual updates in the past, it’s probably safe to assume the same here. Which means that, hopefully, Armored Mewtwo should be a relatively easy catch with a small group of friends. The Armored Mewtwo event runs from July 10 through July 31.

As for the upcomingPokemonmovie, while it launches in Japan on July 11, it won’t arrive in western theaters until November 17.Pokemon Gofans will just have to trust that Armored Mewtwo is a very exciting character for the time being.
