Pennywise Already Turned Into A Skeleton In IT’s 1990 Miniseries

IT’s First Screen Adaptation Imagined Pennywise As A Killer Skeleton

IT: Welcome to Derry’s promotional Funko Pops all feature Pennywise in various guises. There is his classic appearance, his human form, “Bob Gray,” fromIT: Chapter Two, and a new design dubbed “Skeleton Man.” “Skeleton Man” is a clawed, noseless humanoid figure with a bony body, white skin, and rows of sharp fangs.

IT: Welcome to Derry’s Skeleton Man looks like it will be a formidable, scary new version of the villain, butthis isn’t the first time Pennywise has turned into a terrifying skeleton on-screen. It briefly became a swampy skeleton in the 1990 miniseries, which was the first time Pennywise took on this form.

Skeleton Man Looks Like One Of Pennywise’s Most Horrifying Forms Yet

IT: Welcome to Derry Won’t Rely Solely On Pennywise’s Existing Disguises

Curry’s performance as Pennywise is still singled out as a career highlight for the veteran actor, and many retrospective reviews note that it is the 1990 adaptation’s special effects that let down an otherwise solid retelling. As such, it is great to seeIT: Welcome to Derryre-imagining one of Pennywise’s earlier looks.

IT: Welcome to Derry’s version of the Skeleton Man already looks a lot scarier than the 1990 skeleton. The monster has only been glimpsed in the form of a Funko Pop, so it is fair to assume that the finished look will be terrifying.

The scene where Pennywise turns from an idealized apparition of Ben’s father into an algae-strewn skeleton is chilling, and the Swamp Thing-style monster is an effective special effect. However,IT: Welcome to Derry’s take on this version of Pennywise is likely to be a lot scarier, making its presence in the prequel promising.
