A few days ago, a piece of concept art was shown by the MexicanOverwatchWorld Cup Twitter account that included the portrait and name of anunannounced new character named Sigma. When asked about Sigma in a livestream,Overwatchgame director Jeff Kaplan didn’t deny his existence, and now a new teaser trailer may provide even more evidence that Hero 31 is in fact Sigma.

TheOverwatchSigma teaser trailer begins like any other Jeff Kaplan Developer Update video. “What’s up everyone? This is Jeff from theOverwatchteam,” Kaplan says. However, the Developer Update is quickly interrupted by what appears to be a black hole, and Kaplan is replaced onscreen by a bunch of different math equations as a piano plays in the background. The equations then begin to shake and the music becomes sinister before the video abruptly cuts off.

This is almost certainly a teaser trailer for the unannounced Sigma character inOverwatch(or whoever Hero 31 is). The main evidence in favor of this theory is that “sigma” is also a symbol in math, and the teaser includes a variety of math equations.

Overwatchhasn’t really used cryptic teasers like this since way back when it released its first post-launch hero, theDamage character Sombra. Fans didn’t react positively to how drawn out Sombra’s reveal was, and so all future heroes were announced in a more straightforward manner. However, as long as Kaplan and hisOverwatchteam don’t wait ages to properly reveal Sigma, they will likely avoid similar criticism.

Of course, we have to consider the possibility that Hero 31 isn’t Sigma. Prior to the leak of the Sigma art, the prevailing theory was thatHero 31 was Mauga, a character introduced in Baptiste’s short story that seemed to have all the fittings of a new tank class character.

Ultimately, all we know about the nextOverwatchcharacter in an official capacity is that they are male. More information on Hero 31’s identity should come to light in the coming weeks. In fact, more news could come as early as this week, as Kaplan teased as much in a recent stream.

Overwatchis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
