Without a major change in the player dynamic of the Shanghai Dragons in theOverwatchLeague, they may very well end stage 1 without a victory. Currently, last in the standings, the Dragons have a 4 – 33 map record and 0 – 8 match record. To counteract this and other team concerns, multiple sources reveal that the team may be hiring four new members, one of which is South KoreanOverwatchoff-tank Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon, formerly of the ROX Orcas.
If the deal goes through, this would make Geguri the first female to join the league one of a select group of women competing at the highest level of their respective game in eSports. Two of the other members that could be joining the team are Element Mystic tank captain Lee “Fearless” Eui-Seok and MVP Space flex Cheon “Ado” Ki-hyun,” while the fourth remaining member is currently unknown.
While another player is making headlines for afine due to an indecent gesture, Geguri is moving forward. When she was not originally signed during the formation of the league, she refuted claims that it was due to her being female, and she subsequently tweeted, “I don’t want people to use my story to forward their own ideologies.” It was a surprising omission considering at one point last year, she topped the tank spot on the South Korean ladder, and currently, she is ranked No. 6 overall.
This addition to the Shanghai Dragons may go a long way for the reputation of theOverwatchLeague. Considering the league is still relatively new, its reputation is a major focus in the eSports world. That’s why the league fined a player for derogatory language, and before that, anotherplayer was suspended. Hopefully, everything continues to move forward for Geguri with her entry into the league.
