Overwatchadded Hero 30, ahealer character named Baptiste, back in March. Four months removed from Baptiste’s debut, and fans are anxious to see what’s next for Blizzard’s hero-based shooter. Details are still light on exactly what Hero 31 will entail forOverwatch, but in the game’s latest Developer Update, game director Jeff Kaplan teased the new character.
Overwatchgame director Jeff Kaplan didn’t reveal much about Hero 31, but he did reveal a couple of things about him. For one, Hero 31 will in fact be a male character, and secondly, he won’t be available as soon as fans would expect. It’s unclear what exactly this means, but it seems like a safe bet that Hero 31 won’t be inOverwatchuntil after the summer season wraps up. We’d be surprised if Hero 31 wasn’t in the game by BlizzCon in November, though.
Speaking of summer, Kaplan also touched on the 2019 Summer Games seasonal event. Since its inception, theOverwatchSummer Games has taken place throughout the month of August, but Kaplan said that fans can expect it to start earlier this year. While not confirmed, this does seem to suggest that the 2019OverwatchSummer Games will kick off by the end of July.
Kaplan also teased that this year’sSummer Gameswill include some new things for players to try. Of course, the standard Lucio Ball will almost certainly be back, but it’s possible that it could be tweaked this time around as well. Ultimately, interestedOverwatchplayers will just have to stay tuned to find out more.
More information on the 2019OverwatchSummer Games and Hero 31 should become available in the coming weeks. In regards to Hero 31, there are multiple theories out there as to who the character may be, but one of the most popular is that Hero 31 is Mauga, a tank class hero associated with the villainous Talon organization. Mauga was previously seen inBaptiste’s short story “What You Left Behind,“and given Blizzard’s tendency to tease characters before officially revealing them, he seems to be a likely candidate for Hero 31.
Overwatchis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
