The upcomingOverwatch2is making some dramatic changes to Blizzard’s hero-shooter franchise, like lowering the number of players per team from six to five, with one tank, two support heroes, and two damage heroes. As one might imagine, this in turn is requiring the developers to make some serious balance changes to the game, withOverwatch 2having to rework some of the roster’s existing heroes.
Overwatch 2has already touched on major changes coming to some of the heroes when the sequel launches, and now it’s confirmed yet another hero who is getting a big rework. But while most of theOverwatchheroes will remain in the same category after their reworks, damage hero Doomfistwill actually become a tank onceOverwatch 2launches. This was confirmed by Blizzard during the latest development stream.

Followingrumors of Doomfist becoming a tank, theOverwatch 2development team confirmed that the rework is in the works. While there aren’t a ton of specifics on how exactly the Doomfist tank rework will play out, the developers have said that he will be slower and do less damage than the current iteration of the character, though he will also have some new abilities to make up for those nerfs.
One of the big selling points ofOverwatch 2is the inclusion of a PvE story mode, but it seems that particular mode is going to need more time in the oven. As a compromise, Blizzard has made the decision to separate the launches of the two modes, insteadreleasingOverwatch 2PvP firstand then dropping the PvE content at a later date. It’s unclear when exactly either mode will release to the masses, but with beta tests underway, there’s a chance that PvP could launch sooner rather than later.
Blizzard has not announced a concreteOverwatch 2release dateat this time, so fans will just have to wait and see how the beta tests go next month.
