Hogwarts Legacyis perfect for fans who want to immerse themselves as Hogwarts students. The main questline will introduce players to all of their classes and teach them spells that will help them in their exploration throughout the castle, while familiar surnames and other notable landmarks are all inseparable fromHarry Potterlore anyhow.Hogwarts Legacy’s protagonist is crucial to its narrative, but players get to assume that role. However, a magical customization option in a sequel or DLC could take inspiration from one ofHogwarts Legacy’s own companion characters.

Indeed,Hogwarts Legacyhas a lot of customization featuresseen throughout the game. It is fantastic that the Room of Requirement and its several Vivariums are as expansive as they are, for example, and transmogrification is appreciated in each new article of clothing players purchase or discover. That said, customization for the player’s character is relatively limited. This could be improved in a sequel regardless, but it would be excellent to also see the option to choose an Animagus animal form for players to transform into during gameplay like Natsai Onai.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Natsai Onai is an Animagus

It is revealed later thatHogwarts Legacy’s Natsai Onaiis an Animagus with the ability to shapeshift into a gazelle. Natsai is already an incredibly intriguing companion character since she hails from Africa and previously attended Uagadou. Natsai is a skilled witch who had learned how to cast magic without a wand, but being an Animagus is also an exceptional ability that seemingly none of her classmates at Hogwarts share.

Animagi do not choose the animal they can transform into, but if the protagonist of aHogwarts Legacysequel is capable of shapeshifting into an animal that would be another great way to implement customization, especially if there is an option for the animal to be selected at random. Natsai being an Animagus opens the door to the player-character being one as well, and could be an interesting part of the protagonist’s backstory, similar to howHogwarts Legacy’s powerful main characterhas an affiliation to Ancient Magic.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Sequel Needs Better Character Customization

Hogwarts Legacy’s character customizationis serviceable, and it is great that players do not need to assign themselves to a particular gender if they wish not to, but it is fairly underwhelming in comparison to character customization options found in other big-budget action-RPGs. Players can then swap a preset avatar’s face shape and skin color, but they cannot go in and tweak particular facial features or alter anything about their avatar other than their eye color and eyebrows.

Hair and hair color can be changed along with blemishes and facial markings, but that leaves little room to actually customize how the player’s character will look, such as if they wanted to try to have theirHogwarts Legacyprotagonist look like themselves or another individual identically. There is a lot of room here for aHogwarts Legacysequelto improve upon, but being able to choose an Animagus form would also be exceptional with associable abilities in gameplay.

Being an Animagus could allow players to choose from a predetermined selection of animals, and based on which animal players choose it would be neat if they had different attributes, such as a cat being nimble or a bird being able to fly.Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel could get creative with this customization, leaning into another popular part ofHarry Potter’s lore.

Hogwarts Legacyis out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming May 5 and a Switch port dropping July 25.
