After waiting 16 years sinceF-Zero Climaxon the Game Boy Advance, fans of the futuristic racing series are used to disappointment when it comes to potential new games in the series. The wait will continue for some time more, after a Twitter account which was raising fans hopes of a newF-Zerogame was found to be a hoax.
The previously protected account used anF-Zeroname, appeared like it was using a Nintendo.co.jp address, and was created around the same time as a yet unconfirmedSuper Mario35th anniversary account, which raised hopes that it was genuine. However the first post from the account was definitely not in the family-friendly Nintendo tradition, and made it very clear that it was not linked to the company.

This means it is likely that the similarly registered SuperMario35th twitter account is also fake, although gamers cannot yet know for sure. Nintendo is known to be holding some form of 35th anniversary celebration, but information on what it may include is thin on the ground. Nintendo has already announcedSuper Mariothemed Jenga and Monopoly celebration setsfor August, but has not yet confirmed other rumors like aSuper Mario Anniversary Games Compilation.
It appears that the person behind theF-Zerohoax was biding their time, waiting four months between registering the account andrevealing the truth. Just enough time to get some gamers hopes up, although most long-timeF-Zerofans know not to believe anything other than official confirmation.
With such passionate fans, it’s a shame thatF-Zeroremains a franchise left behind by Nintendo, and one jumped on by trolls. That said, if the hoax helps to show Nintendo justhow much interest there is in a new versionof the fast-paced racer, it will be worth it after all.
