They’re not exactly low-level either

What kind of supercomputer is needed to transport a human from their realm of existence to some sort of virtual reality? Probably a ridiculously expensive one, right? Well, not quite. It isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s doable.

Oculus VR has revealed therecommended specsfor the retail release of the Rift. They aren’t as high-end as you might expect, but they may require some upgrades, regardless. For the “full Rift experience” as Oculus puts it, you’ll need:

The average price for the GTX 970 looks to be right around $350, making it the most expensive piece for this setup. Using real rough numbers, you could probably buy a rig with this configuration and the Rift for around $1,000. Again, not exactly cheap, but more accessible than you’d think the technology lends itself to.
