The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredis full of eccentric characters, but few are as off-kilter as Glarthir. Found in the city of Skingrad, Glarthir is clearly prone to imagining conspiracies around every corner. This trait is reflected in the name of the quest you can acquire from him — “Paranoia” — but despite his obviously skewed view of the world, there’s always the possibility that some of his suspicions could be justified.
Helping Glarthir involves shadowing several other townspeople, as he fears that a number are spying on him as he goes about his daily business. This can take a while, but dutifully doing as Glarthir asks isn’t the only way to finalize the quest. The guard captain, Dion, is concerned about Glarthir’s activities, and reporting Glarthir’s inappropriate demands takes the quest down a different route. It’s also possible to trigger an early, violent end to the quest by upsetting Glarthir.

What Happens If You Help Glarthir In Paranoia
Tailing Suspects For Three Days
If you agree to help Glarthir, you’ll have to meet him behind the church in Skingrad at midnight, a task easily achieved by heading to the quest marker and changing the time of day if necessary. Here,he’ll ask you to follow Bernadette Peneles, a neighbor whom he suspects is tailing him. To properly fulfill his request, you’d have to wait outside her house at 6 AM and follow her throughout the day. However, it’s entirely possible to return to him the following midnight without having tailed her and report whatever you like for a reward of 150 gold.
After meeting Glarthir again at midnight,he’ll then set you on the trail of Toutius Sextius, giving you another day to spend following someone around. You’ll once again return to him and report on whether Sextius is free of blame, receiving a reward of 150-200 gold.He finally asks you to tail the winemaker Davide Surilie, setting up the climax of the quest.

Reporting Suspects As Innocent
If you’ve reported both Bernadette and Toutius as innocent, declaring that Davide is also innocent will convince Glarthir that you’re a part of the conspiracy. After you’ve made all three claims of innocence, Glarthir will attack, forcing you to kill him. You can take a bit of loot off his body, including his house key, although you won’t get your final day of pay. In the morning, town citizens will remark on Glarthir having turned up dead, but they seem to view it as little more than a vaguely unfortunate but unsurprising fate forsuch an eccentric character.
Reporting Suspects As Guilty
It’s also possible to lie to Glarthir about the guilt of one or more characters, which heavily affects the outcome of helping him. While they all appear to be innocent,if you start telling him they’re guilty, the rewards for Toutius and Davide will increase to 200 goldapiece. It’s also possible to kill them yourself as you go about your duties, and although he’ll express some hesitation over their deaths, he’ll continue to reward you. Declaring even one character guilty should prevent him from attacking you at the end.
ensure not to kill any of the suspects before Glarthir actually asks you to follow them, as doing so will invalidate the quest.

If you’ve already killed any characters that you’ve called guilty, you’ll receive 500 gold from him on the final day and complete the quest. If you’ve declared the guilt of any characters and left them alive, Glarthir will hand you a list that marks them for death after you finish all three days.Fulfilling this mission will net you a lump sum of 1,000 gold.
What Happens If You Report Glarthir
Getting Others To Do The Dirty Work
It’s quickly obvious that Glarthir isn’t exactly the good guy in this scenario, so you can take the opportunity to report him at any point after learning his plans. However, if you don’t want to risk innocent bystanders, it’s best to report him after agreeing to whatever he asks of you rather than denying any of his requests.Refusing him can set him on a rampage, where he’ll go home, grab an axe, and set out to kill any of the suspects currently alive.
If you report Glarthir before receiving his List of Death, you may’tpersuade the NPCsto do anything about it, but no harm will come of it. If you want to fully resolve the situation by reporting it, you’ll have to tell Glarthir that at least one of the suspects is guilty so that you can receive the List of Death after all three days. With the List of Death, you can then tell a town guardor either of the Surilie brothers about it, and they’ll ultimately kill him rather than leaving you to do the dirty work.

You Should Report Glarthir In Oblivion Remastered
The Best Moral Choice Still Has Solid Rewards
If you’re following any moral code inOblivion,it’s better to kill Glarthir than let innocent bystanders die, so reporting him after getting the List of Death is a great option. Telling him they’re guilty, getting the List of Death, and then reporting him will let you rack up 550 gold and a point of fame, so this is the easiest path to getting good rewards and preserving your integrity.
If you’d rather tell him everyone is innocent than trick him into his death, the fight with Glarthir is easy, so it’s also fine to avoid involving the guards. You won’t get as much gold this way, but you can grab his house key off his corpse and conveniently loot his home withoutattempting to pick the lockto make up for it.

Lastly, if you’re not concerned with the moral outcome of the quest, killing people on Glarthir’s behalf will provide the most significant gold rewards. In an evil playthrough or one where gold simply trumps roleplaying, this is the best path to take. The only fate you should unilaterally avoid is any in which you refuse Glarthir and trigger a rampage, as this will result in the least benefits for any sort ofOblivion Remasteredplaythrough.
