Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episodes 1-10.AfterYellowjacketsseason 3, I finally understand Lottie’s reaction during season 2’s rescue scene — and it makes her character even more tragic than I realized. Although the girls have yet to be rescued in the show’s teen timeline, they take the biggest step towards that end inYellowjacketsseason 3, episode 10. While Shauna and the girls hunt Mari in “Full Circle,” Natalie uses the opportunity to take Hannah’s satellite phone and call for help, revealinghow the teens get home after 19 months in the Wilderness.
Although rescue hasn’t happened yet,Yellowjacketsseason 2, episode 1 does give us a glimpse of the girls arriving homebetween the teen and adult storylines — and not all of them seem particularly happy. At first glance, this seems like a manifestation of the girls' trauma. After spending so much time in a brutal place in the Wilderness, they wouldn’t be upbeat and perky immediately upon reentering the world. However, the events of season 3 clarify that there is another reason Lottie yells at reporters and some of the girls look deeply troubled: they didn’t want to return.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Explains Why Lottie Screamed At Reporters After Being Rescued In The Season 2 Tease
She Wanted To Stay In The Wilderness
Reporters swarm the Yellowjackets when the teens arrive home after 19 months in the Wilderness, and that would be enough to put anyone on edge. However, Lottie seems especially angry about it, as she lets out a feral scream at the journalists after getting off the plane.Yellowjacketsseason 3 explains this behavior, asit reveals that Lottie wants to remain in the Wilderness — perhaps more so than any of the other girls. Although Tai and Shauna eventually join her in this decision, Lottie is the first one to suggest that the survivors no longer belong in civilization.
When Natalie pushes back against this idea, Lottie tells her that she “won’t be well” if they go back. Given Lottie’s history of mental illness and tense relationship with her parents, it’s understandable that she has reservations about returning to her former life.Lottie believes she has found herself and stepped into her power in the Wilderness, and that power would likely be ripped away from the teens upon returning home. This is the reason Shauna sides with her when the girls want to be rescued. And it explains Shauna’s behavior during season 2’s flashback as well.

Shauna Was Also Angry In Yellowjackets Season 2’s Rescue Tease, Which Makes Sense
Shauna Refuses To Let The Teens Go Home In Season 3
It’s difficult to get a good look at all the teens duringYellowjacketsseason 2’s rescue flashback — at this point, we can’t know who all the survivors are — but many of them seem dejected while being reunited with civilization. Tai doesn’t have much of a reaction to what’s going on, and Shauna seems angry during this scene. Thanks toYellowjacketsseason 3, their behavior makes far more sense. The characters who don’t want to be home are lashing out, especially since they’ve been betrayed and forced to go home after the events of “Full Circle.”
