The date of the nextNintendo Directmay have just been narrowed down. Nintendo irregularly holds livestreamed, prerecorded Directs to announce what’s coming next for its games, hardware, and more. While these events are often unpredictable, they’re almost always the subject of near-infinite speculation, as fans and industry insiders alike attempt to guess at their dates before they’re announced. One such insider has a bold claim about the next Direct, and, while it’s not totally imminent, it may only be a short way away.

Reliable leakerNateTheHatesuggests, in a new video on his YouTube channel, that the next Direct is coming sometime later this month - July 2025 - but thatNintendo is waiting until after thelaunch ofDonkey Kong Bananzato hold its next event. That’d put our next Direct firmly in the latter half of July, likely on the week of the 20th or 27th, to give DK’s release weekend a little breathing room.

NateTheHate Says Next Nintendo Direct Is After Donkey Kong Bananza Launch

A Likely Story

Nate the Hate suggests that the next Direct is planned for sometime after the launch ofDonkey Kong Bananza, which does seem likely. Thelast Direct was entirely DK-centric, presenting 15 minutes of information about the upcomingBananza, so it only makes sense thatthe next Direct will focus on what comes after it.

Nate the Hate does have a pretty good track record when it comes to predicting Directs. Most recently, and most prominently, he called the date of the Switch 2’s reveal - January 16 - a fair bit in advance. While it’s certainly possible he’s right again,as always, we need to take this Direct rumor with a grain of salt. Nintendo has yet to confirm anything, and likely won’t until much closer to the date of its next Direct.

Our Take: Nintendo Needs A Solid Direct

The Switch 2’s Future Is Uncertain

While we can’t speak with any certainty as to the possibility of a Nintendo Direct later this month, I can say one thing for sure:the Switch 2 needs a new Direct.Donkey KongBananzais only the second brand-new first-party game for the console; there’s not much else to play, unless you’re catching up on older games or replaying your Switch 1 favorites. And while there area handful of other exclusives confirmedto be coming out later this year, the Switch 2 still has a lot of library building to do.

A Direct would help that along by revealing some new games for players to look forward to. Even if they don’t immediately solve the Switch 2’s library problem, they’ll reassure us that there’s a solution coming sometime in the near future. Really, aNintendo Directis probably forthcoming for that exact purpose - but only time will tell whether Nate’s prediction is true.
